Call my ethics questionable, but losing bit torrent downloads will seriously erode my interest in the internet. Sure there's still porn, but without this choice file sharing technology, will I be able to afford it?

ISPs who block BitTorrent

Having trouble with your BitTorrent transfers? A number of internet service providers are known to throttle, block or otherwise interfere with BT traffic. A Wired employee was having trouble with his BT downloads and uploads tried to contact his ISP:

He called RCN support and asked why this was happening. After being transfered a few times, a support technician told him that it must be a problem on his end -- after reprimanding him for illegal file trading. For all she knows, he was trying to share a Phish concert. Why the snippy remark?

Turns out RCN is on the BT-hostile ISP list. Does this signal the beginning of the end of BT as we know it? We don't know, but you might as well grab that season of Grey's Anatomy while the grabbin's still good. — Gina Trapani

The real main issue is that 80-90% traffic through bittorrent is copyrighted materials. The main hubs on most ISP has the new cisco routers that have in depth packet sniffers. Just means they can tell which packets are coming from where. So if you call up and say "Hey I use Bittorrent and I feel it's really slow...you guys blocking it." They will know if the packets going through are from mininova, torrentspy, or Pirate bay. In fact, they can even go beyond that and tell the exact files that are being built. There are other file sharing technologies!!

Nuts. What's beyond bit torrent that can not currently be shut down by ISP's? I need to know!

Best bet is something like emule!! or emule plus

Okay this really sucks! I download all the TV shows I watch :( I would hate it if my ISP blocked torrents.

For serious. Torrents have enabled me to cancel my cable service, and afford my untold quantities of music, movies, comic books, and software that I would otherwise never go out of my way to enjoy. A pox on you, internet service providers!
